Pandion haliaetus (Sm.) Ball.

Adapted to the fishing as the only diet, they present a special characteristic that makes a bird perfectly synchronized at the moment of capturing the fish on which it feeds. Principally they are the Tent, in sweet water and the Mugil, in salty water.

This morphologic adjustment, it is her of presenting a reversible finger that allows him with major facility to capture his preys, on having had two fingers towards ahead and two backward, can hold better the fish so much on having captured it, as in the moment to displace it up to his feeding-place. His fingers have developed well claws, which complement each other with the existence of structures similar to small tonsils, which help better to capturing his preys.

Though a part of the population does not realize migratory movements, the majority if it does it, reproducing in the north hemisphere, and migrating to the south hemisphere in the boreal winter.

It is present in the whole Spain, though only it nests in the Balearic Islands (Mallorca, Menoría y Cabrera), in Canaries (Tenerife, La Gomera, El Hierro, Lanzarote, Alegranza, Montaña Clara y Lobos) and in the Islands Chafarinas (Melilla).

In Punta Umbría we can observe approximately 20 individuals in the "Paraje Natural Marismas del Odiel" studied from the year 1997 by the ornithologist Jose Manuel Sayago Robles. Observing and studying in addition, the wintertime for the whole province of Huelva. It will begin an attempt of reintroduction of this species on the part of the administration, in the marshes of Cadiz and Huelva. In the year 2004, Marshes of the Odiel re-get in the " Natural Place " by means of Hacking's method, 12 chickens of fish eagle (with an average of approximately twelve chickens / year), in order that these return in adult age to produce since(as,like) they it were doing long ago for these places. The chickens are brought of Finland, Sweden, Germany and Scotland, where the population is more that stable and they do not present immediate threat.

Riesgos y agentes de perturbación//Risks and agents of disturbance :

Catalogued like in " Critical Danger " (CR). His decrease is due to a combination of reasons that include the direct pursuit, the destruction of his habitat and inconveniences in the zone of nest building.

  • The destruction of the habitat takes place for the construction of urbanizations and / or tourist facilities in coastal zones.
  • The inconveniences in zone of nest building for traffic of trippers and fishermen, fellings vegetations, …

Juniperus oxycedrus subsp. macrocarpa // Large-berry Juniper

This present species in the coastal sands of Punta Umbría is catalogued by the Meeting of Andalusia as on the verge of extinction and by the UICN as Vulnerably. In Andalusia only it is present on the coast of Huelva, Cadiz and Almeria. His natural paper is of landfill in poor forests. It is not own to repopulate for his slowness of growth, but it must remain where survives, specially in dunes, where his protective action is irreplaceable.

Juniperus oxycedrus subsp. macrocarpa (Sm.) Ball.

Plant that can reach them 5m of height, though of it carries generally arbustivo of some 3m. It possesses a very thick glass of conical form or aovada, finishing frequently in sharp-pointed form. Trunk, dun of fibrous greyish bark, with leaves verticiladas for three, needle-shaped, rigid, sharp, with two white striping for the bundle, separated by one narrower green nerve. This characteristic separates it from the Common Juniper (Juniperus communis) which only has the only white band. It is a unisexual species dioica, produces masculine and feminine feet.

In Shady Top we can observe the subspecies macrotent, that is to say, big fruits or gálbulas. Unlike other oxycedrus, the gálbulas of the maritime Juniper measure of 12-15 (25) mm, are globular, green of young man and on having matured dun - reddish. Coming to fruition from March to May. Maturing his gálbulas to the second year.

In Andalusia only it is present on the coast of Huelva, Cadiz and Almeria. In Shady Top, concretly in the " Paraje Natural Enebrales de Punta Umbría " and in " Reserva Natural Laguna del Portil ", it is possible to observe an alive and present example of a mature enebral belonging to the geoserie Rhamno-Junipereto macrocarpae. This one spices whose roots are adapted well to unstable soils, they contribute to the fixation of coastal dunes.

Riesgos y agentes de perturbación//Risks and agents of disturbance:

The principal problems with which one has found this species are: indiscriminate Fellings and the effects of repopulation with pinegroves breaking the balance of his ecosystems. The fires. The predación of young plants. For his natural distribution along the littoral, one sees affected by an intense and continuous pressure humanizes, especially for the proliferation of the urban nucleus.

Observaciones// Observations:

It possesses an aromatic wood of reddish and practically incorruptible color. By his nature it has been used: as girders of roofs, posts and props, lintels of doors and windows, etc.

Enebro, Sabina y Pinar// Juniper, Sabina and Pinegrove:

Flora Mayor. Pg. 75).

For dry distillation of his wood, roots and vine-stock, there is obtained a species of tar or fish, " miera of juniper " or " oil of every " Presents great quantity of resin with hydrocarbons and phenols, has been in use as insecticide and for cutaneous ailments against the scab of the cattle.
