LOS PUENTES DE HUELVA A PUNTA UMBRÍA. THE BRIDGES OF HUELVA TO PUNTA UMBRÍA.

One of the pharaonic works with less felt by authorship, is the bienavenida acts of three bridges. These for good of a future for Huelva like modern city with one of the most modern bridges of the world, debit his maxim in the only intention of joining to the locality of Punta Umbría.
No sense makes when what we claim it is to clear the traffic towards the coast. This entry only protects the people of Punta Umbría. Since it is supposed that the road that goes towards Cartaya will be annulled as way of improvement of the coast in the rcuperación of the zone: " ... as if they had moved back to the purity of the dunes in the 60s ".

It affects this work to a great extent to the Natural Reserve of Marshes of the Odiel, not only for the civil work of such a magnitude, but morally it makes effective that the laws or European boards do not serve for anything as measure of portección. Remember that it is: Natural Place, Natural Reserve, Zone LIC, Humedal RAMSAR, Reserve of the Biosphere... in end one few Madness.

Other options are future constructions about happiness roads, the incentive of having the Beach to 7 minutes of the future housings, in zones crecanas to the chemical pole, rafts of fosfoyesos, etc...

Good and then there is the project of the network of Windmills in the sting of an breakwater

Lagarto Ocelado (Lacerta lepida) // Lizard Ocelado

It is without place to doubt the most beautiful of the from Huelva saurios. Powerful jaws, green - yellowish body adorned by big blue "ocelos".

Between his nourishment, specifically insectivorous, Juniperus's fruits appear; extracted of stomach samples for the teacher Jose Antonio Valverde, he refers to these as possible confusions of the lizard with insects.

The maximum opposing heights are; an individual macho captured in the surroundings of the Reservoir the Stones, which 754,5 mm and another female measured captured in the zone of The Portil, which measured 594 mm (Gonzalez de la Vega, Juan Pablo, 1988).

The Lizard ocelado (Lacerta lepida), is the biggest lizard of the peninsula, of very robust body, capable of reaching enormous heights, of developed well extremities and tail of double length that the rest of the body. The head is big, a navy of powerful jaws. The body is green - yellowish, adorned for big blue ocelos; juvenile greenish coloration with ocelos clear.
Though they are capable of reaching really enormous heights, the normal thing is that the heights do not exceed 620 mm of total length. The maximum opposing heights are: an individual macho captured in the surroundings of the Reservoir of the Stones, which 754,5 mm and another female measured captured in the zone of The Portil, which measured 594 mm. (Gonzalez de la Vega, Juan Pablo, 1988).
The jaws are frankly powerful capable of breaking the quitina that covers the elytrons of the beetles and of to give painful bites for drink who it importunes, being too tight furthermore on having tried to get away from his jaws.
The back and the side, he a real mosaic of great beauty formed by small dorsal scales that are rounded and colored of green, black, blue and yellow.

Ocelos y escamas

Is distributed uniformly along the Iberian Peninsula, with the exception of narrow Cantabrian band and of the archipelagoes Balearic and Canary. It is distributed by the whole from Huelva geography.

There exist two geographical differentiated races:

  • Sector - oriental South of the Peninsula: Lacerta lepida nevadensis. The lizards are big, with the sharp-pointed head and minor number of scales ventrales. More subdued, greyish tonality and with the slightly out-standing ocelos; they lack black scales.
  • Rest of distribution area: Lacerta lepida lepida. With the characteristics already mentioned initially.

Riesgos y agentes de perturbación//Risks and agents of disturbance :

Long ago it was a very frequent lizard, but the pursuit of which it has been an object from immemorial times has made it only locally common. In some zones of the peninsula it has turned into a scanty species.

The natural direct enemies are the bastard Snake (Malpolon monspessulanum) and the Short-toed eagle (Circaetus gallicus), for which the lizard constitutes an important part of his diet.
In some areas the lizard ocelado is consumed almost as gastronomic exquisiteness, and even in some zones it is used for the elaboration of " Liquor of Lizard ", softened in residue or unmatured brandy.

On the other hand the hunters accuse the lizard ocelado of decimating the populations of hunting pieces like the quails and the partridges, though his incident is not so important as is claimed.

The follow-ups realized up to the date in the Spanish roads consider the lizard ocelado as the second reptile in number of violations detected (SCV, 2002).

Observaciones//Observations:

The males are those who reach the major heights, have the biggest head and therefore more powerful jaws. In addition the ocelos of the sides are also bigger. Agile, solitary and very territorial animal. Lover of the Sun, though in the very warm days he avoids the hours of major sunstroke.

The epoch of the zeal spreads from April until July. The body of the males presents the very showy colors and in his(her, your) fullness, to be able to carry out the courtship that is really brutal, since sometimes they they do not hesitate to start the tail of a bite in his zeal to copulate; for it they support immobile mercy to a bite in the base of the tail, in the later extremities or often in the abdomen. (Gonzalez de la Vega, Juan Pablo, 1988).

With an alone putting a year, they can give him even two. Opening with the back legs an orifice in the sand and depositing his eggs.

When we are with in the field, he flees "despavorido" between the vegetation sometimes confusing it in the sound as if about a rabbit it was treating itself. But if he feels cornered it will put with the body protected in an end and with the turned head, will teach jaws to any opponent who wants to capture it, for very big that is.

Between his nourishment, specifically insectivorous, Juniperus's fruits appear; extracted of stomach samples for the teacher Jose Antonio Valverde, he refers to these as possible confusions of the lizard with insects.

The lizards ocelados continue being abundant in good part of the Iberian Peninsula, which has determined that the species is not considered to be threatened in general terms(Mateo, 2002).

In the Red Book of the Spanish Vertebrates (Blanco and Gonzalez, 1992) the lizard ocelado was considered to be a Not threatened specie. Ten years later the Red Book of the Amphibians and Spanish Reptiles (Pleguezuelos et to., 2002), that adjusts already to the categories proposed by the UICN, the species remains fitted in the category of Minor Worry (LC).

In spite of having being qualified in occasions as one of the species-flags of the fauna reptiliana European (see Corbett, 1989), the lizard ocelado she is considered to be an especies not threatened in Spain, France and Portugal (Oliveira and Araújo, 1994; Mateo, 2002; Cheylan and Grillet, 2005).

The European directive Habitat it does not also consider in his annexes 2 and 4, which determines that there could not be realized actions directed his conservation in the frame of this directive.

Salinete o Fartet Andaluz (Aphanius baeticus)

Even much does not do there was thought that the fartet (Aphanius iberus), a small endemic Ciprinodóntido of the Iberian Peninsula, was distributing for the whole Mediterranean Spanish littoral from Cataluña up to Andalusia, incluídas a few small populations of the species in the Atlantic Andalusian littoral.

Nevertheless, a project of investigation financed by the Council of Environment of the Junta de Andalucia, in which they informed the universities of Córdoba and Murcia and the National Museum of Natural Sciences (CSIC) has demonstrated that the Atlantic populations belong to another evolutionary line different from the Mediterranean ones. Genetic and morphologic analyses of individuals of both localities indicate clearly this difference. The new species has been named Aphanius baeticus, in honor to the river The Guadalquivir (baetis for the Romans), since it's in his basin where the best populations are located.

Provided that A. iberus also it's present in Andalusia it turns out that it is this autonomous community the only one that possesses two Aphanius's species, being one of them, in addition, endemic of the Region.

Fartet andaluz macho

His form is more tapered and hydrodynamics that that of Aphanius iberus. Since the majority of the Ciprinodóntidos has a marked sexual dimorphism.

Bluish males with great quantity transverse silver bands. Dorsal fin with a marked intense dark blue curbing; the anal fin has two blue bands, between both a blue color can observe turquoise. Wealth truncated with 4-5 bands in the shape of semicircumference, equally of a blue intense color. Abdomen lightly yellowish.

The female is of greyish color, with big black spots of irregular form lengthways, and to both sides, of the lateral line.

Fartet andaluz hembra

The current distribution corresponds to the Atlantic slope of the south of Andalusia, between the provinces of Huelva, Seville and Cadiz.

Up to the present moment eight populations have been located in serious danger due to different reasons, since it are the degradation of the habitat, pollution of the waters, or the introduction of foreign species.

The most western is situated in the Lagoon of the Hondón inside the National Park of Doñana and the most oriental near Conil de la Frontera (Cadiz).

Provided that A. iberus also it is present in Andalusia it turns out that it is this autonomous community the only one that possesses two Aphanius's species, being one of them, in addition, endemic of the Region.

Riesgos y agentes de perturbación//Risks and agents of disturbance:

The destruction, degradation and fragmentation of his habitats are the principal motives of his very poor condition of conservation.

The agriculture and the urbanizations have done devastations in his habitats.

The pollution of the waters and the presence of exotic species (fundamentally gambusia and fúndulo) are the most degrading factors of his environment.

Finally, due to the fact that the populations are practically isolated some of others, the genetic exchange between them (vital for the survival of the species) is practically void.

Observaciones//Observations:

The Atlantic fartet presents ten radiuses branched out in the anal fin and eight in the dorsal one. The caudal peduncle is longer and low and the length preorbitaria more short than the Mediterranean species. Both species coloration "epigámica", that is to say the females' corporal color is very different from that of males and accents furthermore in the reproductive epoch.

Most of the populations of the new species is located on lagoons and small fluvial courses that end directly to the sea or to the marshes of the Guadalquivir. The majority they are of exiguous entity with slimy funds and scanty vegetation riparia dominated for Tamarix ssp., rushes and / or Salicornia ramossima.

The salinity of the waters is very changeable and goes from the practically sweet ones up to the hypersalt mines. A population completes his cycle in waters with salinidades superior to 100 %, almost three times that of the sea.

A victims' important proportion owes to itself the human being, who gives them death for considering them to be harmful for the species of hunt. The run in road both fortuitous and deliberate, are undoubtedly one of the most important reasons of mortality, being the major frequency of run overs in the central summer months, dates in which the hedgehog develops a major mobility.

" In his raids it stops to hear a particular, very strong scream, which remembers meow of pain of a cat that has received a stamp ".

The hedgehog is easily recognizable for his dorsal zone covered with thorns, with the exception of the face. Short ears. The hair of the abdomen is of white color and the part of around is of dun color. To see the differentiation of sexes, it is more complicated, if the animal can be observed to simple sight the reproductive device will be more stuck to the anus in the sex feminine and more anticipated the masculine one.

The youngest specimens have the white prongs and his skin. Devoid of hair, it is of a bluish grey, going on to a color meat in the head and the abdomen.

Indeed it might confuse with the Moorish Hedgehog (Atelerix algirus), less robust, clearer, with the major ears. But this hedgehog possesses an almost exclusive distribution of the Oriental zone of the Peninsula.

The common hedgehog can be in almost the whole Iberian Peninsula. Though it is absent in the Islands Balearics, Canaries and the territories of the North of Africa.

In the zone of Huelva it occupies a very wide range of municipalities and habitats. Both opened and wooded, and enclosed field. For what can appear so much in the Saw of Aracena, Andévalo, Field of Huelva up to the Coast.

It is common in Punta Umbría that one was finding in the gardens of the houses with the consequent fright of the grandmothers: " All the times I have seen my grandmother with the broom in his hand and removing this ball with thorns up to throwing it out of the garden ".

During the hibernation a high mortality is produced due to the depletion of his energetic reserves.

Observaciones//Observations:

El Buho real o el Gran Duque (Bubo bubo) // Eagle Owl " The Great Duke "

The Eagle Owl (Bubo bubo) is one of the most beautiful and emblematic birds of our Iberian fauna. Since he could not be less our friend Félix Rodriguez de la Fuente it was calling her " The Great Duke ", it shows of the dominion and elegance with that this animal, it swings for crags and banks of our peninsula.

He will be Jose Manuel Sayago, the principal promoter in the search of the Great Duke in the province of Huelva. This ornithologist who works with the Agency of Environment. It located 10 years ago the majority of the nests of the province of Huelva and it continues today with his follow-up and study.

They are great the people that they have started studying in field with Jose Manuel Sayago, in his that to do daily and directly, and it will be to him to which we should of for life the knowledge and the first contact with this species and some others.

Is the greedy night one though the majority of his preys locates them getting dark or dawning and in the night he visits the resting-place for cattle to rest as any bird, especially when he(she) has hunted something.

It is the major species of the Strigiformes, his corpulence increases with the dense plumage; big head. When it is relaxed it can have form of barrel and when it is alert, a very long and thick neck. " Long ears ", visible except in flight, only the ergue when it is bothered or is in alert.

Big and orange eyes that manage to be some kind of magestuosos and swindlers.

The difference to simple sight of the adults is practically impossible, if we can say that the females are major that the males. And if the plate can observe incubatriz that it appears under the chest when it goes enough time incubating, then there is no doubt, is a female.

According to a study realized (Martínez-Climent and Zuberogoitia, 2002) turned out to be different and useful for the determination of the sex, the measure of the forearm with a regleta, giving as result:

Males: forearm <>

Females: forearm> 199 mm.

They nest in roquedos near creeks and do not place branches to do the nest, simply one I remove of land, normally protected by vegetation. Or in big nests left of other species when they do it in trees. Since it is the case of the Owls of Punta Umbría. Though also they can do it in the soil, surrounded with vegetation.

The putting will begin in winter on December and will be of approximately two eggs average. This one can get longer up to the spring.

Now with the heat the thing is changing and it is possible to prolong or begin before. The period of putting will be of approximately 70 to 80 days.

The nestling is nidícola and with short, dense and soft down. With that they change color perfectly between(among) the rocks.

Occupies his distribution in the province of Huelva, almost 50 % of the whole province being the favorite places near creeks or banks, or at least always they must have something of it waters down nearby, to drink and to make up.

Riesgos y agentes de perturbación//Risks and agents of disturbance :

Though there a great index of puttings to the great year of the chickens they were not managing to fly, already be for the occasional loss of the puttings or through the fault of the intrusion of the man, which I do not satisfy in spite of pillaging the nests, they are capable up to of shooting the adults and young men when they have occasion.

The pressure escopetera manages to be so strong that the resettling zone prevents in good way where previously the resident pairs had got lost.

Another high index of deaths they are due to the electrocution, items of extermination, the use of strychnine for the poisoning of individuals.

Observaciones//Observations:

General practitioner Spices, his principal diet is based on the meat of rabbits and birds, for the most part birds for the lack of rabbits. The Red-legged partridge, córvidos and paseriformes win in percentage to other birds.

This is a good indicator of which the Eagle Owl is as the lynx with the mongoose, fox or badger, in his territory, is a moderator of the balance in the places where he lives, supporting to stripe to these birds in order that his population does not go off. Also frequent sound was finding in his nests " the cavity " done with the body of the common hedgehogs, or beards of fish.

La Corvina (Argyrosomus regius)// The Bass.

Riesgos y agentes de perturbación//Risks and agents of disturbance:

The pollution of the rivers is one of the principal problems in the disappearance of his habitat. And it is in Huelva for example where before they could be taken by major assiduity, now after 40 years of industry, is a luck if some adult copy is taken.

The Baby's National Plan of Bass (PLANACOR), financed by JACUMAR, and developed by six Autonomous Communities, takes the reproduction as a fundamental purpose in captivity of this species. Fact that has taken place for the first time in Spain during May, 2006 in the LIMIA (Andratx's Port, Majorca, Balearics) and in June, 2006 in the Center The Toruño of the IFAPA (Puerto de Santa Maria, Cadiz, Andalusia).

Observaciones//Observations:

It is a fish that is in the habit of moving in banks of few individuals that they chase up to the surface to the fish of those who feed voraciously.

Great nutritional requirement of A. regious in his(her, your) larval stadiums, consequence of his rapid growth.

This year the apprehension on the part of the ships puntaumbrieños has been 40.000 kilos that brought two ships, with what the value of the bass in low port in purchase up to 3 €/kg. (Though this one will not be the value €/kg in the square of supplies).

Discontinuous distribution in a coastal band that does not overcome in most cases the kilometre of width, from Isla Cristina to Shady Top fragmented in several principal cores.

Presence of natural barriers or inadequate habitats for the species, as the marshes: of Isla Cristina, of the Piedras and of the Odiel. The urban development pressure determines also the presence of the chameleon in the littoral.

Introduced during the decade of the 50 in Isla Cristina y Mazagón's localities, with specimens proceeding from the Puerto de Santa Maria and Puerto Real (Cadiz). The populations of Isla Cristina adapted with facility, those of Mazagón were not successful and disappeared. From these first introduced populations, by means of traslocaciones of individuals to other areas and releases controlled on the part of the environmental authorities, it has increased the distribution of the chameleon along the from Huelva littoral.

There exist two zones that stand out for the registered densities:

  • " Beach of the Berdigón-Beach the Hole - Beach of the Redondela ".
  • Zone " Waters of the Pine - Crossing of the Bota ".

Dimorfismo sexual//Sexual dimorphism:

Nacional, the species is catalogued as almost threatened (NT). This species was catalogued like On the verge of extinction (E) in previous " Red Book of the Spanish Vertebrates " (1992).
The diverse authors and the recent information obtained after exhaustive samplings seem to indicate that his degree of threat is very much minor. In fact him are considered in expansion in numerous zones of the interior of Andalusia, favored by the increase of fruit trees extratempranos (Malaga), greenhouses and new bosquetes (Cadiz), and citrus fruits (Huelva and Faro).

In the Red Book of the Vertebrates Threatened with Andalusia she is considered like in minor Risk: " Almost threatened " (LR).

To Local Level, the species must be catalogued like " In Extinction " in the provinces of Cadiz and Huelva, due to the disappearance of his habitats due to changes in the use of the area and very specially for his use for urbanization.
